Motorsports Team Assistant Coach Chance Holley

The University of Northwestern Ohio announced today that they have entered into an agreement with Chance Holley to take on a full-time role as Assistant Coach of the UNOH Motorsports Team. Holley is a third-generation dirt racer, a graduate of UNOH, and an alumnus of the Motorsports Team. Since graduating, Holley has put together an impressive resume of racing results, including a dominant season at Limaland Motorsports Park as a chassis builder, car owner, and crew chief. Holley has also worked with teams in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, the USAC Silver Crown Series, the UMP Modified division, and various Sprint Car series. Holley has notched one win on the year already, coming as a crew chief in round two of the USA vs South Africa International 410 Sprint Car Championship in Brakpan, South Africa.

Holley will mentor student team members under the watchful eye of College of Applied Technologies Dean and Motorsports Team Head Coach, Paul Higgins, who will remain with the team to ensure continuity of the team’s success and mission. When asked about Higgins’ continued involvement, Holley said “Coach Higgins has been a mentor to me for many years, and I am looking forward to working with him again. He has built this team from one stock car running out of a tiny trailer to the vast, winning operation that you see today. It will be my pleasure to be able to relieve some of the day-to-day duties of managing the team from him while also having the opportunity to grow into the role under his direction.”

When asked about his goals for the team, Holley laid out a simple three-point statement. “First, I will ensure that the Motorsports Team continues to represent the University in the best of light. The students of the Motorsports Team have been some of the most driven, bright and hardworking students on campus since the team’s inception, and I intend to uphold that tradition. I expect my team members to treat the Team like it is a professional racing team that happens to be sponsored by the University they attend, and as such, they will continue to represent the University and its partners positively on and off the track.”

“Second, one of the highlights of the role for me, will be mentoring students as they find their way into the motorsports industry. Some tremendous successes have come out of the Motorsports Team, NASCAR Cup Series Champions, Indianapolis 500 winners, Monster Jam crew chiefs and drivers, NHRA Champions, and hundreds of other individual successes. It is my goal and my pleasure to help shape the early careers of students who are the future of motorsports by fostering a culture of work ethic, by passing down knowledge, and by helping students discover where they fit into the industry.”

“Lastly, I am a Racer at heart, and as a Racer, one of my goals is always to win. The Team has had a great run of success over the last few years, picking up a Gator Nationals trophy, multiple feature wins and even a track championship. I don’t intend to let that success subside any time soon. I know firsthand that 90% of results on race night are determined by the work put in at the shop beforehand, and I will be ensuring that the team members approach each race, leaving nothing on the table.”

Holley expressed gratitude and optimism heading into the role. “This truly is a dream scenario for me, and I can’t express how grateful I am to Dean Higgins, University President Dr. Jarvis and others at the University for selecting me for this role. I grew up with a wrench in my hand and dirt in my blood, but it was as a student of UNOH and a member of this team that I truly learned how to win and how to operate in a professional racing environment. UNOH opened doors for me that I didn’t know existed before enrolling. The UNOH Motorsports Team is the most unique collegiate athletic program on the face of the planet, and I am incredibly fortunate to be a part of it in a leadership role. These students are the future movers and shakers of the Motorsports industry, and I am eager to begin mentoring them.”
